Megan Crain
Hi, I’m Megan. I’m here to talk about sustainability.
My personal journey has led me through 20 years of professional experiences in New York City and Vienna, from performing as a singer and actress, to writing and editing, to sustainability messaging. Something that connects all of these experiences is a necessity to get an intended message across. In my current master’s studies in Building Surveying and in my work with clients in the energy sector, I have realized one important question that constantly needs to be asked no matter who is in front of me at any given time: How does this audience need to hear this message?
Sustainability is a challenge that needs to be worked on by scientists, policy makers, laborers, financial analysts, and a long list of all types of people with different backgrounds and expertise who may or may not communicate in the same way about a given topic. I see my role as a “translator” between specialists. One person (or in some cases one department) doesn’t always have the resources to both specialize in deeply technical aspects AND communicate their findings effectively to another person or group who needs to integrate those findings into their specialty. That’s where I come in.
The way we’re approaching sustainability is evolving rapidly. With rapid change comes an abundance of information - sometimes an overabundance. It can be easy to burn out or check out. In my work I have seen firsthand how clear communication of (even seemingly small) accessible, practical solutions can move the needle in policy, industry, and public opinion.
I’m here to connect the dots with sustainable messaging.
